The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America,
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

Quick update before class  
I'm feeling a whole lot better then I was at the beginning of the week. I still have a little bit of a cough that creeps up on me now and again, but aside from that, I'm good to go!

School - started Advanced Accounting 1, terrible first class, but it can only improve. Oh, and I finished Intermediate 2 and Advanced 2 with A's.

Tomorrow the D&D core books should arrive. I am unreasonably excited about this. I also have a gaming day planned with my cousins in a couple of weeks. We're going to be playing some Lord of the Rings, but we haven't picked the scenarios yet. Need to do that so we can pull together our army lists.

I'm going to be interested in seeing what comes out of the Obama camp now that the primary season is over. Clinton would be a bad choice for the VP slot, but at the same time she needs to be asked. I think she would make a good Secretary of State, but I don't really know what she wants (aside from the presidency, which she isn't going to get).

It looks like summer is going to arrive this weekend. Highs in the 90's, and staying there for the foreseeable future. We get to see how cool the house stays. Even in the 80's the house isn't bad, and the basement is great.

You've got to earn it  
I heard back from that finance job I applied for. No go. There have been a number of applicants who have years worth of experience in that position already, so I was basically told to try again later, when I have more experience. *sigh*




I've noticed online and on the radio people talking about the Democratic primary, and how die-hard Obama supporters feel that Clinton should just get out of the race, and stop hurting the party. I don't get that. How is the party hurt by her running in a primary that has not yet been decided? Was North Carolina hurt by the election? How about Indiana? Are the people of West Virginia hurt by her running? I don't think they are. States that usually have no say in the primaries, which get no campaign attention or money, are getting it now! Sure it's only for a week or two, but for that time states are getting visited by busloads of reporters, campaign helpers, security details, all who buy food, rent hotel rooms, and bring an infusion of cash and excitement to what is usually by this point a wrapped up primary.

Oh, and have you noticed how McCain isn't getting all that much attention right now? Tell me how that's a bad thing!

Is Hilary going to win? No, not unless something really drastic happens. Does that mean she should quit? No. If Obama is going to be president, then he needs to earn it, and according to the delegate count, he hasn't done that yet. When he does the Democratic Party will rally around him, and in January we'll swear him in as the new President of the United States. Until then he has to keep working on earning it.

So stop whining, and let the rest of the country have their say.

All about the numbers  
[info]tigergladys is out tracking with rodenthoardeLucy, and I am home working on taxes.

And it figures. I owe between state and federal taxes about $200.

There is a job opening up at the central business office that looks really tempting. I should decide whether I'm going to go for it by Monday, that way I can turn in a bid form for it first thing.

Bother... GW also posted a position I could apply for, and a year ago I probably would have. But it's in HR rather then in accounting... Ah well.

Well, that was easy  
Tonight I did our federal taxes. I owe eighty bucks, and [info]tigergladys is getting a hefty little refund. I'm saving the state taxes for another night, probably this weekend. I'll also be doing my accounting take home test this weekend, which actually means I don't have class on Thursday. I should probably do homework on Thursday though.

Actually I should have done homework tonight, but instead after work I met [info]tigergladys at the real estate agents office, and we signed the final accepted bid offer. It took about 3 minutes. On March 28th, if all goes well, we will sign a mountain of paperwork and then get handed a set of keys.

I'm going to have to retire the tag "house hunting" for a while.

Oh, what a week.  
Monday – Sick as a dog. Went to work, was basically sent home about half way through the day, and then I went to bed. Everyone skipped rally, and Tigs ended up taking Lucy to agility while I went to bed.

Tuesday – Election judging. Wasn’t even sure I was going to make it through the first hour without vomiting, but I did. I confined myself to doing poll book duty (a job I could remain sitting for) and managed to make it through till the polls closed at 8. BUT WAIT! They didn’t actually close at 8!! Someone in government, in their infinite wisdom, decided that because the weather was bad, the polls would stay open an extra 90 minutes! That’s right folks, when there’s ice on the roads, your government wants you out driving in the dark! Of course no one told us the polls were being kept open, so we were closing up and sending people away. It wasn’t until ten after 8 or so that we found out and had to reopen things. Fun. During that entire extra hour and a half, we had maybe 3 more people come. By the time we did get to close things down I had to let my car run for about 10 minutes to warm up enough so that I could chip off enough ice to see through. I got home, took a shower, and went to bed.

Wednesday - I was back at work, feeling only slightly better then the day before. I left early for the home inspection, which went about how I thought it would. It turns out the house has some issues. The roof, the water heater, the air conditioner are all functional, but at the end of their expected useful life, the dish washer leaks a whole bunch into the basement, and there are some issues with the wiring. Then I went to school.

Thursday - more of the same, with less housing inspection.

Today - I had to go into work early (joy of joys), stay late (rapture of raptures), and then leave to offer someone sums of money (which I don’t actually have, and will be indebted to a corporation for the next 3 decades) for small patch of land and a structure that may or may not be my home in a couple of months. This mostly involved Tigs and I signing and initialing a bunch of papers. Then we left to go to an agility practice, except we forgot to give the realtor the earnest check, so I had to go back to do that. Then I met Tigs and Lucy at practice, worked with Lucy on some stuff, came home, and had dinner. Now I'm going to go take a shower and go to bed.

Ok, I hope you enjoyed the review of all the books I finished last month. As you can see I am well on my way toward completing my goal of 50 books by the end of the year. I'm close to finishing 2 books, but if things continue at this pace, I'll be lucky if I read 25 books this year.

Hobby/game/comic store. Heck, it would be nice if one of these existed nearby even if it wasn't 24hours/day.

I actually can't think of anything else around here that's open all night.

Never.




In case you didn't notice, today is Super Tuesday, and also Fat Tuesday. I won't be voting until next week, and I don't expect today to really bring a democratic front runner. I was going to vote for Edwards, but now I'm leaning strongly towards Clinton.




Once again the temperature is crazy hot at work. 26.9 degrees!! It felt like I should have been wearing a towel while sitting next to a pile of rocks that I should pour water on. Luckily they did, eventually get the things working, and by 3 it was back down to a reasonable 22.6.




So Lent starts tomorrow. I'm curious what you are all giving up? Of course that only goes for the Christians on my f-list… for everyone else, what would you give up if you had to give up something?

Me? I'd be giving up… Honestly I feel kinda stripped down as it is.

The fun never ends  




Well, we all survived Pet Expo, but it was a long weekend! And we were only there for 2 of the 3 days. With all the running around, and moving equipment, and then packing equipment, and then unpacking equipment I was so sore yesterday. Tigs and I even swapped Lucy’s classes last night; I took her to rally, and she took Lucy to agility. It was a little rough for both of us, but overall I think it went well. I wanted to do agility, but my legs were too sore.

The coolest thing about the Pet Expo had to be being invited to the judges dinner on Saturday night. Now, sure, I had a final I needed to do by midnight for my econ class… but dinner out with the judges? At a nice restaurant? Did anyone think I would miss that? I will admit I was a little hesitant, and it took Tigs telling me to go (though it didn’t take all that much effort on her part), but I went. And it was fun, and the food was really good too!

Unfortunately the grades for the class haven’t been posted yet. Coming up, I have Intermediate Accounting II and Advanced Accounting II this semester on Wednesday and Thursday nights. It’s going to be a tough semester, and maybe I should have picked a fluff course to go along with the whole home buying process. We’ll see. That is why my minis are staying all packed up. In fact that makes tonight my only real night freedom before I start with this round of classes.

In housing news we’ve decided we’re going to put in an offer for the house, and with the fed rate cut last week, and the fed rate cut predicted for tomorrow, now is such a good time to be getting a loan! Plus with the decline in sales of existing and new homes (reported last week and yesterday respectively) I’m sure that the seller is feeling worried, which to be honest is where I want him. Now the question is can we draw this out so that we sign the paperwork at the end of March, so that we don’t have to make our first loan payment until May.

Do you think it would be unethical to print out a bunch of articles about the housing market, and the economy in general, and leave them in the seller’s mail box?

Oh, and apparently last night was the State of the Union . You know, I watched/listened to ever single one of these from around 1990 on until a couple of years ago. I just can’t stand to listen to him. Next year I’ll listen. Besides, from what I’ve heard, I didn’t miss anything.



So far tonight, my planed night to relax before everything goes completely nuts:

$600 for you, and $600 for you, and...  
I'm home with a very annoying beast (and the guinea pig too) while [info]tigergladys helps to unload the equipment truck we packed up last night for Pet Expo. I am trying to study for the economy final test, but I keep being barked at. The barking and whining could go a long way toward explaining why my head hurts. However, I don't think it explaines why I'm feeling slightly dizzy.

*Sigh*

Also it seems the government wants to give us each $600. I'm cool with that. I wish it would show up sooner rather then later. Also, why do they say "$600 per person, $1200 per couple"?? Isn't that kind of a "dua" situation? Now if it was $1250 per couple, or even 1201 per couple, that would make sense. But what do I know...

Drat  
Tonight when I got home I called the number to see if they actually wanted me for jury duty.  Not only did they not want me, they didn't want anyone.  *sigh*  And I was really looking forward to it too. 

We did go to the home buyers workshop tonight, which was quite informative.  I actually feel more confident about our chances of actually owning a house by April.  First though, we need to find it, and we really can't start looking till January.  It would suck to find it this month, and then have to wait to try to buy it. 

Anyway, off to bed, as I now have to be at work early tomorrow.

I just want to do my part...  
As long time readers are aware there are certain civic duties that I perform on a regular basis. I give blood, I vote, and I’ve recently begun to serve as an election judge for Baltimore County . Ever since I registered to vote I’ve been waiting to be called for jury duty. The call never came, until some months ago… from Connecticut . Obviously I couldn’t serve from Baltimore. Well this week I finally received my second call. I will be on jury duty in November for the circuit court of Baltimore County. I can’t wait!

With the delivery of such exciting news, some bad news had to arrive. I went to donate blood Thursday. I didn’t succeed, and I’ve been permanently banned from giving to the Medstar blood bank. It seems that juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, being an autoimmune disease is one that is on the do not accept list. I always expected that there would come a time that I couldn’t donate, especially with all the restrictions that have been adding up for situations like paying for gay sex with druggies while sharing their crack needles travelling too much. I didn’t think it would be because my knees sometimes hurt. The good news is that I can still give to the Red Cross. Of course that means finding them to give, and finding time when I'm not at school. Either of them.

1 for me, 1 for them  
Last night I went back to CCBC to deal with the whole placement test thing. I brought copies of my transcripts, and went in straight from work (stopping at home long enough to pick up the cell phone). I signed in and waited a bit, reading the colleges monthly newspaper. It was less then interesting. Once I met with one of the advisors the conversation went something like this:
Advisor – So what can I do for you today?
Me – I wanted to talk to you about not taking the placement test.
A - *blink* Not taking the test?
M – That’s right.
A – And what makes you think that you shouldn’t have to take the test.
M – My associates degree and my bachelors degree. *I hand her the transcripts still in their “official” envelopes.*
A – Oh. *Pause* Is it ok if I open this?
M – Yeah?
A – But this is an OFFICIAL transcript.
M – Yeah?
A – Are you sure?
M – Yes. (how often does one need an “official transcript in life?)
A - *Opens envelope and grabs another form from a shelf next to her* And did you take an English writing course?
M – Yup.
A – And for math you took….
M – Calculus.
A – Ah. *pause - writes some stuff down* Ok, you’re all set, and the secretary should get this into the computer by tomorrow afternoon.
So at least now I don't have to spend around 3 hours taking some stupid test!!



So we got the first response about our taxes. Unfortunately, rather then being one of our returns it was a bill for about $60. Why? Because I made a slight math error that turned my 11 refund into a $60 bill, and will lessen Tigs' return by $20. Damn it.

Five on Friday – Idolatry

1. Have you been sucked in by American Idol? Not even a little bit.

2. Do you own any albums or songs by former American Idol contestants? Nope.

3. What kinds of contestants do you find yourself rooting for? Who is your favorite this year? Who do you think will win? Don’t watch!

4. Which do you enjoy most: the auditions or the finals? I still don’t watch!

5. If the American Idol auditions came to a city near you, would you go? Why? Nope, even if I had cable I wouldn’t watch! Besides, I know how well I used to sing, I also know I haven’t practiced in years and that I am in sorry shape, voice-wise

Friday 5

1. How’s your car running? Needs the fuel injection system serviced could probably use a re-alignment, and an oil change. Aside from that pretty good.

2. How’s your blood pressure? Right where it should be, as of yesterday when I gave blood.

3. How’s work (or school)? Getting better! And school starts in a couple of months.

4. How’s 2007 so far? A little tight, a little stressful, but pretty good overall.

5. How’s your hair? Tactically retreating.



Tonight I finished our taxes. Right as I type the printer is printing out clean copies of the forms we need, and then we can mail them in and enjoy our tax returns. Not too surprisingly they've already been spent with the bulk of the money going towards paying off our various debts. I think, before I wrap up the taxes I'm going to run a few hypothetical tax forms, with various incomes. This comes from a discussion I had with HR at the hospital. There are a number of positions that in a year I could be in the running for. Why in a year and not now? Well in part because a year from May (give or take) I'll have my accounting certificate. How do I know I'll have it? In part because I got my acceptance letter to CCBC. In all honesty I really think CCBC accepts anyone who isn't currently in jail or failed to send in the application fee.

The falling of coins, the music of the stars  
I’m of two minds about this whole daylight saving time thing. On the plus side is the extra hour of light at night during which we can do stuff. Said stuff includes painting, playing with the puppy outside, and generally fun activities. On the negative side it means that the sun is barely up by the time I get to work, I lost an hour of sleep last night, and it screws up my internal clock for at least a couple of weeks. *sigh*

There are two things you can count on in life. Last night I started to tackle the taxes part of that duo. I say started because Tigs and I moved last year. For those of you who have not moved to another state in your adult life, let me share the excruciating joy that it brings at this time of year. You see, even if you have an insanely simple set of federal taxes, the states in their infinite wisdom have to have a special form for those who leave or come to either of their fine dominions. This form of course requires at least 2 other forms, possibly more, to complete. These forms are not included in the booklet they send you (if they sent it to you) and so require multiple trips to the computer to print out.

Helpful hint, make sure you print the correct year's forms!

In over 3 hours of work, I finished most of my taxes (I think) and started Tigs’. So far things look good, especially seeing as we were both unemployed for at least a month, maybe more, so our rebates should help us to pay off our debt. Always a plus!

Last night we also finished off DS9. The final scene in Vic’s with most of the main cast still makes me tear up. I remember sobbing when it first aired. Tigs pointed out something about it too. I don’t remember exactly how it was phrased but it was something like “Well, I guess you liked it at least $700 worth” and it’s true. I really do like it that much. I probably like it more then that, although what kind of Quark fan would I be if I spent more for it than I had to?

I haven't touched the keyboard in weeks. Tonight I'm getting back on the bench! Well, actually it's a chair, but you get the idea. Also, I think I'm going to replace this icon with one of Odo playing the piano at Vic's. I'll probably have to do the screen capture myself, but that's ok, it'll make it more personal that way!

It's not even 8:30, and everyone is exhausted!! Even the puppy!

The puppy fell asleep on my lap while we were all watching the West Wing. We felt that The West Wing was an appropriate show for election day eve.

You are going to vote tomorrow, right?? I'll be working as an election judge again tomorrow.

I post the picture of the puppy and hamster, cause I know it's the only reason I get comments. ;-)

Last day of work...  
Now if only I was retiring!! I’m gonna have to wait some years yet before I can do that. Oh, but how I look forward to retiring! That is of course presuming the world doesn’t go to hell in the next 40 or so years. If it does… well… remind me to take up a few more hobbies that would prove useful should civilization collapse. Shooting is one. I’ve already got some practice at archery. My skill with plants isn’t what it should be, and I’m guessing that growing my own food will be important. Some woodworking skill will also be important. It’s interesting though, that even should civilization collapse, it’s corpse will remain, and so there will be a lot that can be scavenged. The danger will be all the toxins. I’ll probably need to look out for a Geiger counter, or at least some radiation tags. What pleasant thoughts for a Friday morning!


It’s now afternoon. I have an interview scheduled for Monday afternoon about 3 minutes from where I live, and I expect to hear back from the temp agency on Monday morning on another position that I think I would enjoy. At this point though I am more concerned about getting something that pays, and hires… oh, say on Wednesday.

Lucy will like that I’m home on Monday, at least for some of the day. I’ll even be able to bring her with me when I bring Tigs to work, and probably bring her when I pick her up.

Is it weird that I feel like rewarding myself? I feel like I’ve accomplished something, and that I should be recognized for it, but honestly I can’t figure out why!! It’s like want to celebrate finishing this job, which in a way makes sense, but only sort of. My contract was ended, it’s not like I had an end date and I made it, or I finished my work (though I have finished today’s work), or I have a job lined up for Monday, or even Wednesday, yet I want to reward myself. How weird is that? The good news is that I am getting a reward for myself on Saturday morning. That’s when Tigs and I will go and pick up the various packages we have waiting at the post office.

I’ve painted up my old school (2nd edition?) Chaos Dreadnought. It actually doesn’t look too bad, though I really hate the sculpt. It just doesn’t look enough like the rest of the army to fit in. However it will serve until I can finish scratch building one from my leftover defiler parts.

Gods, it’s actually 40 minutes till I can call it a day, and I have NOTHING to do except this. I could find something to do, but really, who cares? It’s my last day. More tea, that’s what I can do.

In my childhood I wasn’t much of a reader. I could read, and I could read with a comprehension level far beyond my age, but I just didn’t care to. There was still so much to see, and so much fun to be had just playing. Yet in 1987 Star Trek The Next Generation aired, and I got hooked. I wanted more! I was introduced to the novels, and read some of them. Then in 5th grade I was introduced to Narnia and I started to see how interesting books could be beyond the final frontier. Since then I have read lots of fantasy and sci-fi, some thrillers, some mystery, some romance, a bunch of chic lit, some general fiction, and even some non-fiction. All of it has provided some escape. No, not escape exactly, more going to see something, then trying to get away from it. Though I must admit it was useful when reading was a good excuse to avoid doing my chores!!

Time to clean the desk and call it a day.

Post-election preview  
I have about 3 pages of hand written notes that I need to transcribe onto LJ for y'all. That, plus some links to various stories about election mishaps. Most of them seemed to be human based, rather then as a result of the machinery. Sorry...

It was a long day, almost 16 hours total, but it was fun and worth it. I am looking forward to Novembers election and seeing how things run then. I should have it all typed out by this weekend. Still feeling tired from it and the past week too, which is why this is so short. As it is I am off to shower and then bed.

Work and Stuff  
Unlike that day 5 years ago, today is rather cold and wet. I had actually forgotten that it was 9/11 until I heard it on the radio this morning. When I got into work this morning and turned on the radio the morning talk & music show was playing patriotic music, rather then the usual light faire, and then they did a moment of silence at 8:46 . It’s been odd, remembering that morning, and knowing all the crap that has happened since then. But tomorrow is Primary Election Day, and things shall go on, as they ever have done, as they ever shall do.


As the day has continued they are peppering their play list with more of the patriotic songs. It’s kinda nice, as these aren’t songs they play often, so at least it’s different! It’s lunch time now. I brought the pizza that Tigs made from scratch last night. Every time she makes it, it gets better! I’m lucky to be with someone for whom food has to be well made and must taste good too! Tonight I believe there is going to be a mushroom dish for dinner.

Yesterday, aside from making pizza was spent on the couch. We didn’t do much of anything, as neither of us was feeling all that great. Mostly that is a reaction to the lack of sleep and the stress of the past week. We really needed a veg-out day. We watched the final 4 episodes of DS9 season 4, Emma, & Shopgirl. We still need to finish Hotel Rwanda. I think we only have another ½ hour or so to go.

Emma was a lot of fun to watch. It actually makes me want to read some Jane Austin.

Shopgirl I really enjoyed. I wasn’t sure what to expect, knowing that Steve Martin wrote it, and stared in it. I think I would have found his character to be more believable if it had been played by another actor. Aside from that it was very well done, and I recommend it if you haven’t seen it. It felt very… true.


Lunch was good, and I finished another book. Now it’s time for another cup of tea. This morning I enjoyed Darjeeling, and now I’m going to make some Earl Grey.



Tomorrow between 6 AM and 9 PM I will be serving as one of Baltimore County's election judges. Currently however I am being bitten on the ear. And no, not by the hamsters or the dog. Don't expect a post tomorrow, but look for one about tomorrow!
